Places to Visit
For sunny days we always recommend any of the excellent beaches. Roscoffs 19th century merchants houses, narrow alleys and the church of notre Dame de Croats are well worth a visit. Quimper is the oldest city in Brittany and has an impressive gothic cathedral, some excellent shopping and the famous H B Henriot pottery.
Oceanopolis in Brest is a full day out with some superb attractions, as are several other local leisure parks.Brest has a vast natural harbour and its chief role is as an important naval base and it took a terrible pounding during the last war.The rebuilt city is not very attractive but some parts of the old Brest still remain, such as the squares and streets overlooking the harbour, the 15th century castle and La Place Guerin, the haunt of local artists and poets.
On a loop in the river Aulne Chateaulin attracts many visitors wanting to visit the Crozon peninzula, the Amorique regional park and Menez Hom, a mountain in Breton terms.Possibly an extinct volcano this "mountain" has panoramic views as far as the bridge at La Faou and the Pointe du Van.It is also a favourite place for hang-gliders.The area is ideal for walking, cycling, horse riding and fishing. There are also many other places to visit, something for everyone. |
